The 5 Components You Need to Build A Successful Brand

I often have people come to me and say, “I want you to help me build a brand.” The obvious place to start is to better understand what it means to have a brand presence. And once I finish explaining what that really means, we always come to the same conclusion. YOU ALREADY HAVE A BRAND. Everyone does! You’ve been creating your brand all along based on the impressions you make and the way you present yourself to the world.

But… what I think we all want to work towards is controlling our own brand vs. letting the world decide how you are perceived. If you want to be in control of your brand, then you need to start building a system.

There are 5 key components to building a successful brand:

1.     Know Who You Are

What are your skills, values, gifts and passions? Do you have goals and a vision for the life you desire to live?

2.    Know Who You Serve

Who can you help, using the unique skill sets you have? Who out there needs to learn what already comes naturally to you? Everyone was put on this earth for a reason. It’s up to you to use what you’ve been given for the greater good.

3.    Know How You Differ or What Makes You Unique

What makes you unique? Identify how you stand out from the crowd, all the way down to a specific niche.

4.    Have a Consistent Message to Support Your Brand

Does what you put out to the world reflect who you are, who you serve and how you differ from those around you? Check your last five social media posts, and you’ll be able to answer that question fairly quickly.

5.    Build Relationships

Are you surrounding yourself with the right people? Are you learning from the people around you? Are you growing as a result of your network?

People with strong professional brands make deliberate decisions about everything from their time and activities to networking and the people around them. They manage their time and resources to support the reputation and lifestyle that will result in them reaching goals and living the life they desire to live.

So, my question for you is… Are you being deliberate when it comes to your brand? Are you pointing your time and energy in the right direction? And does the direction you are moving in lead you to the goals you want to reach, and the life you desire to live?

One thing I learned a long time ago is that your brand should grow consistently and sustainably over a period of time. It’s not something that happens overnight. And it’s not something you can ever take your eyes off. Don’t drop the ball. Keep building.
