RECOMMENDED BUSINESS RESOURCES

People often ask me about the business tools I use, what I recommend and what I really think about certain systems. This page is designed to share some of my favorite online resources and the books I currently have on my bookshelf. Hopefully, this will save you the headache and hours of research, allowing you time to work on what really matters most. I’ll earn a small commission for recommending these tools, but I don’t recommend anything I haven’t used or personally received a lot of value from.

Paper Planners

I’m still a big fan of using pen and paper to plan and map out my year, quarter, month and week. Below are planners I recommend.

  1. The MORELIFE Planner – This is the best option for those who are trying to balance work and the rest of life. Offers everything from weekly to-do lists and scheduling to monthly goal setting and weekend plans for connecting with friends. Plus, some really cool design options too.
  2. The Desire Map Planner – I’m a big fan of this planner because it forces you to think about how you want to “feel” first instead of only focusing on productivity and getting your to-do list done.
  3. DAY-TIMER – From totes and bags to planners and wall calendars, Day-Timer has stood the test of time. It’s my place to go when I need additional accessories. The same goes for At-A-Glance.

Website Hosting and Design

  1. Flywheel – WordPress hosting and management has never been easier. Built for designers but easy enough for the average Joe (like me) to make updates – even if you’re not technical savvy.
  2. Go Daddy – This is the go-to place to secure your domain name and email address.
  3. Ontraport – If you want to create simple and beautiful opt-in pages and sales pages, this is the system to get it done in under 15 minutes. I’ve been using Ontraport to create all the webinar invites, opt-in pages, and thank you pages you see on my site. It’s great for those of us who are not necessarily “techy” but want something that looks like it’s been done by a professional graphics team.
  4. Fiverr – Too busy to do it yourself? Hire a freelancer. Get everything from video and animation, to graphic design and audio production.

List Building

  1. Constant Contact: This is the industry’s number one email marketing tool. I find it to be very user friendly with templates for just about everything. Includes a 60-day free trial, which is longer than most trials.
  2. Mailchimp – Free for the first 2000 subscribers. This is the ideal way to get started on building your email list. You can segment lists to better understand exactly where your traffic is coming from. I started here for free and I’m glad I did.

Security and Backup

  1. Dropbox - I use drop box for secure file sharing with clients and storage of larger files so they do not take up space on my computer’s hard drive.

Productivity Tools

  1. 17hats – If you’ve ever worked with me, you know I conduct most of my business processes through 17hats. Why? Because 17hats really does give you a suite of functions to go from a sales lead to information-gathering to proposal, contract, and finally invoicing and payment. It’s a one-stop-shop.
  2. Evernote – Capture, organize and share notes from ANYWHERE - and I do mean anywhere.
  3. Trello – A work organization tool that lets you organize and prioritize your projects in a fun, flexible and rewarding way. Great for organizing projects that have multiple parts.
  4. Fiverr – Too busy to do it yourself? Hire a freelancer. Get everything from video and animation, to graphic design and audio production.
  5. Paychex – If you need to get staff paid safely and remotely, Paychex is the best way to keep things moving, organized and on time.
  6. Snagit - I'm not sure what I ever did before I discovered this screen capture and screen recorder software. I honestly use it every day.

Quizzes, Polls, Giveaways

  1. Interact– Create your own online quizzes, polls and giveaways that generate leads.

Graphics

  1. DepositPhotos - Free stock photos, vector images and videos
  2. Fiverr– Too busy to do it yourself? Hire a freelancer. Get everything from video and animation, to graphic design and audio production.
  3. Snagit– I’m not sure what I ever did before I discovered this screen capture and screen recorder software. I honestly use it everyday.

Webinars and Conference Calls

  1. Free Conference Call – This is my go-to for conference calls and webinars. Share your screen, answer questions and record your presentation for viewing later. Plus you have your own personalized meeting room on the site, too.

Education

  1. Udemy - As a life-long learning, I believe in the power of education. The world changes fast and Udemy has a course on just about anything you can desire for cheap - starting at only $11.99 for courses.
